Our History
Trinity Baptist Church was chartered December 31, 1969, by Rev. James Wetherington, under the name of Pleasant Grove Community Church.
In 1998, Dr. T. Wayne Giles, Sr., took the church under the name of Pleasant Grove Community Baptist Church, shortly after Rev. Wetherington was called home to the Lord. Under the direction of Dr. Giles, the name was changed to Trinity Baptist Church.
Initially, a gospel singer and lay preacher named George Pierce assisted the church until Dr. Larry Varndell found out they needed a pastor. Dr. Varndell helped Mr. Pierce until Dr. T. Wayne Giles, Sr., took the pastorship from 1998 to 1999. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Dr. Giles left the church, but would return in 2006. When Dr. Giles left the first time, Dr. Jason Call pastored for a short period and then Dr. Larry Varndell pastored for several years. Dr. T. Wayne Giles, Sr., returned in 2006, and pastored until he was called home to the Lord on September 4, 2009.
On September 13, 2009, the church congregation appointed Rev. Neal Polaske, who had formerly served under Dr. Giles as Associate Pastor, as the Pastor for Trinity Baptist Church, leading the congregation from 2009 to 2011. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Rev. Polaske stepped down as Pastor on December 4, 2011, but has continued his membership at Trinity Baptist Church. The congregation has appointed a pastoral search committee and is currently searching for a pastor. One of our missionaries, Dr. Walter Yoho, with the assistance of Mr. Bob Myers and other guest speakers, have been consistently assisting with preaching for the Sunday services until the church finds a pastor.
